Tell us a little bit about what you do (business, career, etc.) How did you get started in your field?

I’m an insurance agent with Liberty Mutual specializing in auto, home and life insurance. I’m passionate about helping others understand insurance. It is the one thing that protects our families and the things we work hard for every day. Insurance is not black and white; each individual’s needs are different. A lot of consumers aren’t aware of the coverage limits they have and what exactly they are paying for. To no fault of their own of course, an agent just has not yet sat down to review it with them. I went to college originally for medical coding and worked at the Christiana Hospital for 3 years. I handled the billing and coding for a lot of auto accident patients. I saw their coverage limits exhausting and a lot of lawsuit paperwork. This made me want to educate myself and get involved with helping people with their insurance needs.

If you could go back and share some wisdom or guidance to your younger self, what would that be?

Don’t worry about what anyone else thinks, do what makes YOU happy and follow your own dreams!

When you’re not working, what can you be found doing?

Volunteering at Faithful Friends Animal Society (rescue dogs are my biggest passion!), hiking, relaxing at the beach, spending quality time with family, friends and my own fur babies, Max and Trinity.

How did you push through a turning point (career, life, etc.) and what did you learn from it?

When I was in my early 20’s, my boyfriend at the time assaulted me. I never thought something like that would happen to me. It was one of the hardest times of my life to get through. I took a lot of serious time after this happened to focus solely on my relationship with myself. I learned first and foremost, that it is never okay for a man to put his hands on a woman and to always stand up for yourself, care for yourself, and love yourself. I learned what I was worthy of and adapted healthy ways to take care of my physical and mental health. I truly believe every challenge and hardship only makes you a stronger person. There is a plan for all of us and a silver lining in every difficult situation.

Exactly a year after this incident, my (now fiancé) and I started dating. We are getting married this fall. I am forever grateful for him and that we found our way to each other in perfect timing.

We know that you currently lead and organize Women United, and you do a lot of networking. Inevitably, everyone you meet becomes a friend. As an extrovert, how do you balance work and play?

My work is like play to me! I sincerely love people and helping them in any way I can whether it be personal or in their business. Connecting with people and making new friends makes me happier than anything. With that being said, I still always make sure to take some ME time every day to do something fun and/or relaxing for myself.

Give a shout out to the woman or women who inspire you the most.

My mother, Mary Vitak is one of the strongest women I know. She is my role model and my best friend. I am extremely lucky to have had her as an influence in my child and adult life. She looks at the bright side of every situation and has taught me how important it is to laugh and have fun every day!

Every woman I have met in the Fund for Women and Women United. They are all so genuinely kind, intelligent and resilient. Each one of them cares for, supports and uplifts those around them as well as contributes to the greater good. I am beyond blessed to be surrounded by the women that have come into my life.

What is a surprising tidbit about yourself that most people don’t know?

I’m a bookworm!
